Movie Review: Assault on Precinct 13

Poster

My Rating: 3Stars

Tonight I went to see the movie Assault on Precinct 13 at Broadway Cinema, Olympian Plaza. Another one of the movies from my Must See Movies list.

I did not have too much expectation with this movie. As you may tell it had been a while since I’ve been to a movie, so this evening it was a nice deserved break for me for the past months of running my online stores here and on eBay.

This movie is a bit different play on the traditionally topic of the down-and-out-good-guy who came up to the plate when going got though. Actually the reason I gave this movie only 3 Penguins is because I cannot tell you too much of the movie. If I do I will give away the movie.

So if you have time and looking for a break go and purchase the VCD for this movie.

Movie Review: Meet the Fockers

My Rating: 4Stars

Tonight I went to see the movie “ Meet the Fockers ” at Broadway Cinema, Olympian Plaza. Another one of the movies from my Must See Movies list.

Hilarious… hilarious… hilarious. The more I watch Robert De Niro in comedies (the original, “Meet the Parents“, “Analyze That“) the more I like him in them. This sequel to the original “Meet the Parents” is no different.

Although, the other cast members have something to do with it also. Ben Stiller for one again plays the unlucky guy whom you just can’t help feel sorry for.

So, just watch this and you will have a good night out.

Movie Review: National Treasure

Poster

My Rating: 5Stars

This afternoon I went to see the movie “National Treasure” at Broadway Cinema, Olympian Plaza. Another one of the movies from my Must See Movies list.

What can I say… yet another great movie.

For fans of “Indiana Jones” and “Lara Croft” series of movies, this is another to add to that collection. May be “Ben Gates” will be another name to remember.

There are so many elements of the other series, including the constant revealing of clues and chases by the bad guys of the hero.

The writers definitely set this movie up for potential sequel.

Movie Review: Polar Express, The

Poster

My Rating: 4Stars

This evening I went to see the movie “The Polar Express” at Broadway Cinema, Olympian Plaza. Another one of the movies from my Must See Movies list.

In a single word “Amazing”.

Amazing acting by Tom Hanks. Amazing animation. Although, the movie’s story line is a bit simple, for someone who enjoy CG (Computer Graphics), this is definitely a movie to keep in ones collection when it comes out on DVD.

The many characters that Tom Hanks played in the movie are all animated using direct motion mapping. Where Hanks wears a suite with placement markers and the computer scans and monitors every facial and body movements translating this back to computer models for the characters. This is definitely a revolution in movie making. It also showcases Hanks incredible acting (role playing).

Movie Review: Ocean’s 12

Poster

My Rating: 4Stars

This evening I went to see the movie “Ocean’s 12” at Broadway Cinema, Olympian Plaza. Another one from my Must See Movies list.

Again I did not go into this sequel having too much expectations like any other sequel. I was expecting the similar twist-and-turn of “Ocean’s 11“, and to my present surprise, the twists and turns of the story are even more elaborative than one would expect for a sequel.

The characters Danny Ocean (played by George Clooney) and Rusty Ryan (played by Brad Pitt) again had the nicest clothes of all characters.

I really don’t know why Julia Roberts complained about the credit order on the posters. She only played a minor role in this sequel compared to Catherine Zeta-Jones.

From the looks of thing, the writers left room for yet another sequel in case the box office justify so.

Movie Review: The Final Cut

Poster

My Rating: 3Stars

This evening I went to see the movie “The Final Cut” at Golden Harvest Theater, Gateway Plaza.

This is not really a typical movie of Robin Williams, but for some reasons this reminds me of his other movie “One Hour Photo“.

I always believe Robin Williams is one of those great actors of our times, along with Tom Hanks. They are can transform themselves to characters that are not their typical roles. I guess that is another reason why they are great.

Unfortunately, that’s all that is great about this movie. So for the Robin Williams fans, this is another movie for your DVD collection, but no need to rush to see it in the theaters.

Movie Review: Mindhunters

Poster

My Rating: 4Stars

This afternoon I went to see the movie “Mindhunters” at Broadway Cinema, Olympian Plaza. Not one of the movies from my Must See Movies list.

In a way this is the typical detective story in a way it is not. The one actor (Christian Slater) I thought was the main character actually turns out to be a minor character. The main characters of the story are played by the lesser known actors of Hollywood.

A good mystery overall with the right amount of twists and turns in the plot. If I tell you anymore I will ruin it for you.

Movie Review: Shall We Dance?

Poster

My Rating: 4Stars

This afternoon I went to see the movie “Shall We Dance” at Golden Harvest Theater, Ocean Terminal. Another one of the movies from my Must See Movies list.

What can I say? I have not seen a bad movie with Richard Gere, and this one is no exception. Every movie that he is in, the director would always guarantee to include a “drop-dead-woman-killer” shot. Like Sean Connery, the older they get the more the women drop at their feet.

This is a nice movie about a save innocent subject matter that makes you feel good afterwards.

Movie Review: The Stepford Wives (2004)

Poster

My Rating: 3Stars

This afternoon I went to see the movie “The Stepford Wives ” at Broadway Cinema, Olympian City. Another one of the movies from my Must See Movies list.

I don’t know about you but I personally still cannot comfortably accept Matthew Broderick in any mature adult character. If you’re as old as I am, you will remember Broderick in his most famous role “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off“. In Stepford Wives Broderick plays Nicole Kidman’s character’s husband.

Stepford Wives is a movie with a subject matter that not many other movies had ever touched on. That is “the man behind the woman” idea. I do enjoy Ira Levin’s idea. Although I have not seen the 1975 version of the movie I do enjoy Paul Rudnick’s version of it for the screen.

The casting for this movie was perfect. Kidman had always been seen as a powerful woman (“Eyes Wide Shut“, “Birthday Girl“). I guess may be the casting director also have the same stereotyping for Broderick, in that case may be Broderick is the perfect cast for the role of “Walter Kresby”.

This is also one of the few movies with the most name-brand-dropping. Rudnick plays on the stereotypes of these brand names to enhance the characters they represents. One questionable mention was Microsoft. I wonder whether Apple Computers paid for the brand placement or was it done free by the studio.

Movie Review: The Terminal

Poster

My Rating: 5Stars

This evening I went to see the movie “The Terminal” at Broadway Cinema, Olympian City. Another late addition to my Must See Movies list.

I am again overwhelm by the great acting of Tom Hanks. The character “Viktor Navorski” is incredible. Of course, there may be other factors like, a great script or the famous directions of the director, Steven Spielberg, or the multi million dollar set of the JFK airport.

Yes, they built a set to resemble the International Hall of the JFK airport, and even painted the largest mural as a backdrop for hanging outside the windows of the terminal, just so that it will look believable when one looks out the windows of the terminal.

Tom Hanks has again added another superb performance to his repertoire: “The Ladykillers“, “Catch Me If You Can“, “Bands of Brothers“, “Cast Away“, and of course “Forrest Gump“.

I will definitely go purchase the DVD for this movie to add to my collection.
