Yesterday I reported Smartone-Vodafone’s (SMV) tariff plans for the soon to release iPhone 4. Not long after my post was published the other competitors in Hong Kong also release their respective tariff plans for the iPhone 4.
With the help of @abc1230 (on Twitter) I have created an English version of the spreadsheet (http://bit.ly/iphone4hkplans) comparing the tariff plan offerings from these carriers in Hong Kong.
I am on three the speed is ok but sometimes coverage not ok. What do you think of 3 vs smv in terms of speed and coverage?Which would you choose?
I believe when comparing cell coverage 3 HK may be better than Smartone-Vodafone (SMV), but since 3 HK has more subscribers than SMV their network is also heavily used. As a result I found that 3 HK's quality of cell service is not as good as SMV.Another thing to consider is the consistency of the network signal; I will assume you're speaking of 3G data, having a slower consistent 3G data signal is better than a fast 3G data signal that is sometimes fast and sometimes slow.I also believe SMV currently has 21Mbps capability at all its cell sites compared to 3 HK they do not have every cell site upgraded yet.I am personally on SMV.

thanks i think consistent is important too. also lately 3 HK is very slow only 100kb/s
Is this slowness consistent in the same area every day of the week? Does it occur at any particular time of day consistently?
Then how about PCCW ? They seems to have the most Wi FI Hot spots but what about their 2G and 3G service ? Better coverage like their wired network ?I'm thinking to switch from 3HK to either SMV or PCCW. Any advice ?
Yes, you are correct that PCCW has the most WiFi hotspots in HK; approximately 3100 in total, but that includes the telephone booths.
The problem with PCCW Mobile is that it is the old Sunday infrastructure. PCCW used to be good because it owned CSL until they sold it to Telstra. In the past few years, to rebuild their mobile business they acquired Sunday.
As you may know Sunday has one of the worst network back then.
